About the Musik
At the heart of the Texas Viking Festival beats a deep and abiding love for Norse music, the kind that stirs something ancient in the soul. Bands like Wardruna, Heilung, and Faun have shown the world that the music of the North is very much alive, and it is our greatest aspiration to bring those artists and others like them to Central Texas as part of the Texas Viking Festival experience.
We are especially proud to have helped bring to life the sensation Norðenfölk, a band formed from the winners of our own Skaldic All Thing competition, our celebration of original Norse-inspired music and performance. Watching that competition spark a genuine band that has gone on to captivate audiences is one of our proudest achievements.
From homegrown Texas talent to internationally acclaimed artists, we are honored and delighted to welcome bands from across the USA and the world to our massive stage. Music is the thread that weaves our festival together, and we will never stop reaching further to bring you the sounds of the North.
Musik FAQNorðenfölk
Born from the stage of the Texas Viking Festival's Skaldic All Thing competition.
Norðenfölk is living proof that the North inspires greatness. Formed by the winners of our Skaldic All Thing competition, TVF's celebration of original Norse-inspired music and performance, they have grown from a competition victory into a genuine sensation, captivating audiences with powerful vocals, driving percussion, and an unmistakable connection to the ancient world.
We are incredibly proud to have played a part in their origin story, and even prouder to call them part of the Texas Viking Festival family. Watch for Norðenfölk on our stage and follow their journey as they carry the spirit of the North to audiences everywhere.
Tordenkor
The thunder of the North, brought to the heart of Texas.
Tordenkor ("thunder choir") delivers exactly what their name promises: a wall of sound rooted in Nordic tradition and driven by raw, primal energy. Their music draws from the deep well of Norse mythology and the natural world, weaving ancient themes into performances that leave audiences breathless.
We are proud and delighted to welcome Tordenkor to the Texas Viking Festival stage. They represent exactly the kind of authentic, powerful Norse music experience we strive to bring to Central Texas, and we know the moment they take the stage, you will understand why.
Skuggaheimr
Making their Texas Viking Festival debut, and we could not be more excited to welcome them.
Skuggaheimr is a band that has captured our attention and our hearts, and this year we are thrilled to welcome these fellow Texans from Dallas to our stage for the very first time. Their music carries the weight and mystery their name suggests, drawing listeners into shadowed worlds where ancient Norse tradition meets powerful, evocative sound.
This is a TVF debut you will not want to miss. We are so excited to introduce Skuggaheimr to our festival family and watch the crowd experience them for the first time. New bands, new energy, new memories, that is what the Texas Viking Festival stage is all about.
This is Norðenfölk, singing and playing at the 2025 Texas Viking Festival closing weekend Yule celebration. What you are witnessing is the burning of our Yule Goat, the ceremonial finale that marks the close of the festival each year. Even as the flames rise, you can still see the band on stage, dancing and playing, leading the crowd through every moment of the ceremony. This is what musik at the Texas Viking Festival looks like.
Frequently Asked Questions About Concerts in Magical Norse Forests
Will there actually be Norse Gods at this concert?
Almost certainly. Odin is notoriously difficult to spot, on account of the whole one-eye-and-a-wide-brimmed-hat situation, but attendees have reported a suspiciously wise-looking old man near the mead tent who kept asking riddles and then wandering off before anyone could answer. Thor tends to make himself known during the drum solos. You will know when he arrives.
What magical creatures might I encounter in the forest?
The forest at Valkyrie Ranch is home to trolls, land elves, gnomes, and at least one very opinionated raven who seems to understand Norwegian. We also cannot rule out a Jotunn or two lingering near the tree line. We ask that you do not feed the creatures, do not challenge them to contests of strength, and absolutely do not make eye contact with anything that looks like it might be a Huldra. Trust us on that last one.
Is this like a Renaissance Faire where the bands play the same thirty-minute set four times a day?
We are so glad you asked, and the answer is an emphatic no. This is not a Renaissance Faire. We love Renaissance Faires, but we are not one. At the Texas Viking Festival, our bands play a real concert, a full set, performed with everything they have, once. No looping the same six songs between turkey legs. The concert takes place in the latter half of the day, so come ready to plant your feet in front of the stage and let the music wash over you the way the North Sea washes over a longship, which is to say completely and with great force.
What should I wear to a concert in a magical Norse forest?
Whatever makes you feel like a Viking. Garb is enthusiastically encouraged. Chain mail is acceptable. A horned helmet is historically inaccurate but we will absolutely not stop you. We only ask that you wear no less than you would at a public beach, which is admittedly a lower bar than most Norse warriors held themselves to, but Texas weather in December can be unpredictable and we want everyone comfortable.
Will the forest creatures appreciate the music?
The ravens are already fans. The gnomes have been caught humming Wardruna songs near the creek. One of the trolls reportedly wept during a Heilung performance in 2023 and has not been the same since. As for the Norse Gods, they have been attending live music for several thousand years and have very high standards. We are proud to report that so far none of them have overturned any tables in disapproval, which in Viking terms is basically a standing ovation.
