Our Story

Back in 2018, a group of passionate people who met at a renaissance faire came together with one bold vision: to create the largest Norse cultural festival in the USA. Fueled by a shared love for history, culture, and community, they joined forces to build a gathering like no other—a place where people could celebrate ancient traditions, forge new friendships, and immerse themselves in the spirit of the past. Their dream became reality, and now, over five years later, we proudly celebrate the 6th anniversary of the Texas Viking Festival. What began as a small gathering, has grown into an epic annual event, honoring the journey of friendship, adventure, and merriment that started it all.

Franc

Franc, the Gnome King / Frakka Konungr, is the visionary behind the Texas Viking Festival.

With a deep passion for history, fantasy, and Norse lore, Franc has created a vibrant world where the past comes alive in the heart of Texas. His dedication to immersive experiences and craftsmanship has made the festival a beloved gathering for all who seek adventure and tradition. As the Gnome King, Franc brings his magical touch to every detail, making the festival a one-of-a-kind celebration of Norse heritage.

Answers to frequently asked questions about us

Are you affiliated with Sherwood Faire?

No. We are, however, great Great friends. The best of friends. No better friends have ever existed. Everyone Agrees. There can be no questions about how amazingly wonderful our friendship is.

Are you affiliated with Thorin’s Mead?

In a fashion - YES! Valkyrie Ranch is the home of our festival and Thorin's Viking Brands; who make all the mead, cider, and various wines you know as "Thorin's Mead." On any given day you can find Thorin and Franc walking around the 500 acre wildlife preserve that is Valkyrie Ranch, talking about most any topic that is distracting them from doing actual work.

Can we dress in garb for the festival?

We encourage it! Dress however you like; we just ask that you wear nothing less than you would at a public beach. Whether you’re Scandinavian, Norse, or even one of those hard-to-understand Danes, we will love you for it. Show off your best clothing. We will be dressed for the occasion and feel embarrassed if no one else dresses up too.

Is that your real accent?

Ah, you’ve caught me! It’s a blend of my Spanish roots, Texas charm, and a touch of viking-spirit. You could say I’m a Spaniard living in Texas with a Norse-twist—quite the accent cocktail!
